Same rules as every comparison we publish: we build one of the two products, every claim about the other is quoted from their own public pages with the date we read them, gaps are reported as "not mentioned on their site" rather than as verdicts, and we start with what they do well — because Geek Divers does some things genuinely well.
The short version
- Geek Divers is management software; DiveHQ is management plus booking and payment software. That is not our framing — it is theirs. Their own FAQ answers "Is there a booking form for my website?" with "We're working on it!", states that "Geek Divers does not handle payments on your behalf", and answers "Is there a POS?" with "No, not yet." (read on 6 September 2026).
- Their staff pay engine is the deepest we have seen. "More than 500 different combinations of commissions", payslips updated daily. If your dive center's hardest problem is instructor pay, they have thought about it longer than anyone.
- Both take 0% commission and neither caps users. Parity — nobody wins that argument here.
- Liveaboards and cabins are not mentioned anywhere on their site. DiveHQ's liveaboard module runs real fleets in production.
Pricing: two philosophies
Geek Divers does not publish a number. Their price is "the price of 2 fun dives in your price list", per location and agreed in writing — a charming, honest idea: expensive destinations pay more, cheap ones pay less. Around it sit an Accommodation module at €25/month, 10% and 20% discounts for 6- and 12-month prepayment, a +6% surcharge for PayPal, +3% on non-EUR invoices, a paid account-freeze option, and a 1-month free trial.
DiveHQ is a flat published number: €50/month for a dive center, €75/month for a liveaboard (up to 2 boats, first 3 months free), €150/month for a resort with rooms; pay yearly and two months are free.
Run the arithmetic for your own price list. If you sell fun dives at €25, Geek Divers costs about €50/month — the same as DiveHQ. At €45 a dive, it is ~€90/month for management software that, per its own FAQ, does not take bookings or payments. At €18 a dive in a budget destination, it undercuts everyone. Their model rewards cheap destinations; a flat fee rewards busy ones.
Where Geek Divers is genuinely strong
- Staff commissions and payslips. Their headline feature, and deservedly so — five hundred commission combinations covers pay schemes we have never even met, and daily payslips end the end-of-month spreadsheet fight.
- A real company with real history. German entity, founded 2017, run by two PADI instructors. Nine years of continuity is worth something in a field where products appear weekly.
- EU hosting and GDPR posture — a genuine argument for European operators.
- Rooms for €25/month — the cheapest accommodation add-on in the field, if room-and-staff management is all you need.
What their own pages say to check before you sign
All quoted from geekdivers.com on 6 September 2026 — and their FAQ deserves credit for being this frank:
- "We're working on it!" — on a website booking form. Guests cannot book you online through Geek Divers today.
- "Geek Divers does not handle payments on your behalf." — no payment links, no gateway settlement; you invoice and chase money elsewhere.
- "No, not yet." — on a point of sale.
- "No internet means no Geek Divers." — their words on offline use. DiveHQ's onboard POS is offline-first, because boats.
- Not mentioned anywhere on their site: liveaboard or cabin booking, agency B2B distribution, marine park fees as computed line items, PB1/GST handling, RSTC/PADI e-waiver forms, availability feeds. Ask them directly if any of these run your business.
Who should pick what
- Pick Geek Divers if you are a European-run dive center whose pain is staff pay, scheduling and GDPR-clean record-keeping, you sell face to face, and you are happy invoicing guests yourself. Within that shape, it is a considered product built by people who teach diving.
- Pick DiveHQ if you want guests to book and pay you online, run a liveaboard or a resort with rooms, sell through agencies, operate where the internet drops, or want the till, the waiver and the park fee in the same system as the booking. That is the part of the job Geek Divers' own FAQ says it does not do yet.
